1. Watch the Lessons

2. Take Action

3. Enjoy Your Garden

Ever felt like "I want to have a garden, but..."

I am starting from zero knowledge.

I've tried before and it didn't go well.

I don't know if my soil is any good.

I can't even keep my houseplants alive.

What if I just don't have a green thumb?

As a new gardener, it can be overwhelming to figure out what to do. And frustrating if your efforts fail. You shouldn't have to waste time or money to grow food and flowers.

We've helped thousands of gardeners learn the basics. Our step-by-step plan for creating a sustainable garden will work for you too.

During the Start Your First Garden class, you'll pick the perfect spot, prepare the soil, figure out what to plant when, and get growing! Soon, you'll be enjoying fresh veggies and colorful flowers from your very own garden.

Know exactly where your food comes from and that it was grown without harmful pesticides.

Bring your yard to life. Create a space loved by family, friends, and your favorite wildlife. 🐝

Snack on strawberries or tomatoes fresh from the vine. Harvest greens for the freshest salad possible.

Grow with a community. Celebrate wins together, share experiences, and get support.

"I took Amy's program because I wanted to grow food with my family this year, but I wasn't sure how to get started. Thanks to her input, we successfully grew tomatoes, potatoes, and peas...and started a compost bin!"

- Melissa D.

"I love the environment you’ve created here! The material is simple to understand and you pick good topics that help me grow. It’s a place where people can contribute and feel like their contributions are a part of something bigger."

- Simone F.

"If I had to make the choice again, I would sign up again. Gardens That Matter has made a world of difference. I have a garden that I can eat from and delight in. That’s exactly what I wanted when I joined."

- Christine S.

Meet Your Guide

Hi! I'm Amy Landers. 👋

I grew up in my family's garden, but I made lots of mistakes when I set out on my own. Planted okra too early and lettuce too late. Tomatoes with gorgeous leaves...and no fruit. 😖 I wanted to grow organically, but didn't know where to start.

Today, my husband Colby and I harvest delicious foods from a "beyond organic" garden in Western North Carolina. Our yard is full of flowers and fascinating wildlife. The kids enjoy time outside with us (though they seem to disappear when it's time to weed). Still, I love knowing they can eat strawberries and cherry tomatoes right off the vine without worry.

I've been writing and teaching about nature for more than twenty years. We founded Gardens That Matter in 2015 to help gardeners who want to grow healthy food and a healthy planet.

I look forward to hearing about your experiences and supporting your gardening journey!
